Lyvans Boolaky/Getty Unbeelievable!Austin ButlerandPedro Pascalattemptedto come toEmma Stone's rescue when a bee wouldn't leave her alone on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. The trio, who star in Ari Aster's new horror westernEddington, which debuted at the iconic French fest on Friday, were posing together on the red carpet when the buzzing menace first attempted its 15 minutes of fame. Videos from the fest, below, show Pascal trying to shoo it away first. Stone notices, and can be seen mouthing to him what looks like, "Is that a bee?" Pascal seems to answer in the affirmative, and Stone then points it out to Butler, who then blows at the bee. Unfortunately, he does this back in the direction of Stone, who dramatically dips down on the carpet with a look of horror on her face as the insect comes near her again. All of this amuses Pascal, who sticks his hand in front of Stone's face. At this point, Butler also puts his hand up to keep the bee away, and it appears to finally buzz off. Naturally, the internet did what the internet does best, and turned the bee attack into all kinds of edits, from slow-motion, to hero shots, to all sorts of meme-able fun. One Twitter user put it best, writing, "The memes that'll come from Emma Stone dodging a bee at Cannes? Already iconic—and they haven't even been made yet." Per an official synopsis,Eddingtonis set in peak COVID-19 times — May of 2020 — when "a standoff between a small-town sheriff (Joaquin Phoenix) and mayor (Pascal) sparks a powder keg as neighbor is pitted against neighbor in Eddington, New Mexico." The film reunites Aster and Phoenix, who previously worked together on the director'sBeau Is Afraid. Also on hand at the film's premiere were Angelina Jolie, Jeremy Strong, Julia Garner, Luke Grimes and Clifton Collins Jr, though it appears all of those folks missed out on the bee fiasco.
